Ancient Apparition vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Trying to channel Shackles on a core hero can feel very risky against an Ancient Apparition. While Shadow Shaman has excellent lockdown for picking off the frail AA, his own spells often require him to stand still. This immobility makes him an easy target for Ice Blast, which completely negates any healing his team might have and can turn a gank around. Ancient Apparition’s Cold Feet also forces the Shaman to either break his channel or get stunned, making it difficult to fully lock down a target if AA is nearby to help.

The matchup really depends on which hero gets to execute their plan first. If Shadow Shaman can get a Blink Dagger and find Ancient Apparition before a teamfight, AA dies almost every time. But if AA plays from the back lines and uses vision to his advantage, he can land a fight-winning Ice Blast long before Shaman is ever in range to use Hex. It becomes a game of positioning and initiation, where a successful jump from either side can decide the outcome of the next fight.
