Ancient Apparition vs Templar Assassin

How this matchup plays

Popping Refraction in lane does almost nothing against Chilling Touch. The spell's low-damage hits strip away Templar Assassin's defensive charges without being fully blocked, leaving her completely exposed to follow-up harass. This interaction makes the early game incredibly difficult for her. Later on, Ancient Apparition's global Ice Blast is a death sentence for a hero like TA, who often survives on a sliver of health and relies on resetting with items or lifesteal. The shatter threshold means if she ever gets low, there's no escape.

This pressure starts from the first wave and rarely lets up. Ancient Apparition can cripple Templar Assassin's farm, delaying her core Blink Dagger and Desolator timing. In teamfights, AA will aim Ice Vortex to slow her and reduce her magic resistance, setting her up to be deleted by his team. TA's only real plan is to build a Black King Bar early to ignore the debuffs or hope her team has saves to get her out of trouble. She's forced to play much more cautiously, as any drawn-out fight under Ice Blast's effect will end badly for her.
