Ancient Apparition vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Hitting a slippery Windranger with Ice Blast is a big deal, since the magical damage and shatter effect completely ignore Windrun. This means her primary escape tool won't save her from Ancient Apparition's ultimate if she gets low on health. On the other hand, Windranger's high mobility makes her a difficult target for the initial projectile, and a well-aimed Shackleshot can lock AA down for an easy kill. Both heroes have effective ways to threaten the other from long range, so neither feels particularly safe.

The matchup often comes down to positioning and who gets the drop on the other. A pre-emptive Ice Blast from Ancient Apparition can completely shut down Windranger's ability to survive a gank or teamfight. Conversely, if Windranger can find and burst the squishy AA before he can cast his ultimate, her team gains a massive advantage. She can also use Powershot to shove lanes and pressure from fog, making it hard for AA to find a safe spot to contribute from. It's a constant back-and-forth of long-range threats.
