Anti-Mage vs Phantom Assassin

How this matchup plays

Farming the map becomes one-sided because Phantom Assassin's damage profile is a nightmare for Anti-Mage. His whole defensive identity is built around Counterspell's magic resistance, which does nothing against PA's massive physical burst from Coup de Grace. To even fight back, Anti-Mage is forced to buy a Monkey King Bar to deal with Blur, delaying the items he needs to survive and split push. Meanwhile, Phantom Assassin's natural item progression, like an early Desolator, is perfect for hunting and bursting a single target before they can escape.

This allows Phantom Assassin to dictate the mid-game tempo. Once she's online, she can actively hunt Anti-Mage, pushing him out of lanes and into less efficient jungle spots. His game becomes about dodging her while trying to scrape together enough farm for his own items. A farmed Anti-Mage can still win by split pushing, but PA’s ability to close the distance with Phantom Strike and kill him in a stun makes that an extremely risky path. He has very little room to make mistakes.
