Anti-Mage vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Laning against Sniper is often rough for a melee hero like Anti-Mage. Sniper's extreme attack range lets him harass constantly, making it difficult for Anti-Mage to secure farm for his Battle Fury. Shrapnel adds another layer of control, slowing AM down and zoning him out of the creep wave entirely. Even with Counterspell to block a spell, the relentless physical damage can force Anti-Mage out of lane or into the jungle much earlier than he'd like, slowing down the timings he needs to come online and be a threat.

This dynamic continues into the mid and late game. Anti-Mage’s goal is to Blink onto Sniper and burst him, but Sniper’s entire strategy revolves around preventing that. Good positioning far behind his team, combined with a defensive item like Hurricane Pike, can give Sniper enough time to survive the initial assault. If Anti-Mage fails to secure the kill immediately, he's often left deep in enemy territory without an escape. The matchup hinges on Anti-Mage finding a perfect initiation, while Sniper has more tools to dictate the fight from a safe distance.
