Axe vs Medusa

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a Medusa late-game is a huge task, but Axe has the perfect tool for the job. Culling Blade executes heroes based on their raw health, completely ignoring the massive damage absorption from her Mana Shield. This allows Axe to secure a kill on a Medusa who would otherwise survive and turn the fight. Furthermore, a good Berserker's Call can force Medusa to attack Axe repeatedly, triggering a storm of Counter Helix spins. The pure damage from these spins chips away at her health pool, bypassing the high armor she builds up.

This dynamic shapes the entire mid-to-late game. Once Axe gets a Blink Dagger, Medusa has to play with extreme caution. A surprise Blink into Berserker's Call is often a death sentence for her, as it holds her in place for Axe's team to pile on damage and set up the Culling Blade. Medusa’s main goal becomes surviving this initial jump, either with items that block the taunt or by positioning far behind her teammates. While she can still win fights by kiting and using Stone Gaze defensively, Axe’s ability to instantly delete her creates a constant pressure that she must always respect.
