Enigma vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Believing that Black Hole solves a Phantom Lancer problem is a common trap. While Enigma's ultimate seems perfect for catching a hero and his illusions, Phantom Lancer has the ideal tool to escape it. Doppelganger allows him to easily dodge the cast or reposition out of the area of effect. Malefice is also ineffective, as it only stuns one target among many, and finding the real one is a challenge. Even if Enigma does manage to catch the real hero, the swarm of illusions left behind can often be enough to break the channel before significant damage is done.

The result is a game where Enigma feels perpetually on the back foot. Trying to land the perfect ultimate becomes a losing proposition against a hero who can slip away so easily. A farmed Phantom Lancer doesn't need to fear the big teamfight cooldowns; he dictates the pace, forcing Enigma to react or get worn down by endless illusions. For Enigma to have an impact, he needs his teammates to provide another layer of lockdown first, turning his game-defining spell into a simple follow-up.
