How this matchup plays

Rage lets Lifestealer ignore the slows and stuns that supports usually rely on, but Io’s main job isn’t to control him directly. Instead, Io uses Overcharge to grant a tethered ally significant damage reduction and attack speed. This creates a direct clash with Lifestealer’s goal of bursting a key target. The fight often becomes a simple damage race: can Lifestealer kill the buffed carry before Rage ends, or does Overcharge provide enough time for Io’s partner to fight back and win? The result frequently comes down to which side has the better items for the engagement.

During teamfights, Lifestealer will almost always try to run at Io’s partner. Io’s entire purpose is to prevent that kill, using Tether to reposition his carry and Overcharge to keep them alive. If Lifestealer can’t secure a fast kill during Rage, he becomes very vulnerable once the spell immunity expires. On the other hand, a well-farmed Lifestealer can sometimes have enough damage to overwhelm Io’s defensive buffs. Success for either hero depends heavily on their own team's positioning and whether they can force a fight on favorable terms.
