Lion vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a target with Lion's single-target spells becomes a guessing game against Phantom Lancer. Both Hex and Finger of Death are powerful lockdown and nuke tools, but they're easily wasted on an illusion. This makes it difficult for Lion to reliably control or eliminate the real Phantom Lancer once a fight gets going and illusions are everywhere. Earth Spike can help find the real hero since illusions take more damage, but by the time you figure out which one it is, the opportunity might be gone.

This dynamic forces Lion to play reactively. Instead of initiating, he often has to wait for a teammate to reveal or stun the real Phantom Lancer first. If Lion can catch PL out of position early with a Blink Dagger before he can use Doppelganger, he can still do his job perfectly fine. The matchup hinges on whether Lion can find his moment for a clean pick-off or if Phantom Lancer can create enough chaos to make Lion's key spells ineffective.
