Luna vs Io

How this matchup plays

Luna’s Eclipse is the main event in this matchup, and it can shred Io if he's caught out of position. The catch for Luna is that Io is almost always Tethered to a core, which splits the Eclipse beams and severely reduces the burst damage on any single target. This prevents the clean, instant kill Luna is looking for. Io can also answer back with Relocate, either to save himself or to pull his tethered ally completely out of the fight before the damage lands. The whole interaction becomes a test of positioning and reaction time rather than a straightforward advantage for either hero.

As the game develops, Luna will constantly hunt for an opportunity to pick off Io before a major teamfight starts. A successful gank on the support can be game-winning. Io’s objective is to deny this by staying glued to his partner and using vision to avoid getting jumped. In five-on-five fights, Io's focus shifts to keeping his core alive through the initial assault. If he can survive Luna's damage output with his healing and damage reduction, his team can often turn the fight around once Luna has committed her big spells and is left vulnerable.
