Medusa vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down a farmed Medusa with Shackles creates a standoff. Shadow Shaman brings premier single-target control, which is theoretically perfect for holding a high-priority carry in place for his team to kill. The issue is Medusa's Mana Shield, which can allow her to absorb the full duration of his disables and survive if his allies can't apply enough damage quickly. In return, Stone Gaze is an excellent counter-initiation tool against a stationary, channeling Shadow Shaman. His Mass Serpent Wards can also be cleared very quickly by Split Shot if Medusa gets to stand and attack them.

This matchup often comes down to timing and map control. Early on, Shadow Shaman is a huge threat to Medusa, able to set up ganks with Hex to shut down her farm. His team will try to leverage this advantage to take objectives and end before she comes online. The goal for Medusa's team is to play defensively, create space for her to farm, and survive until she has the items to endure Shadow Shaman’s lockdown in a teamfight. If she reaches that point, she can often turn fights after absorbing his initial burst of control, making his impact much lower.
