Medusa vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Dealing with Medusa's Mana Shield is the central problem for Venomancer. His entire kit is built around damage-over-time effects like Poison Nova and Venomous Gale, but this type of slow, ticking damage is exactly what Mana Shield is best at absorbing. Medusa can often regenerate mana faster than Venomancer can drain it, turning his ultimate from a teamfight-winning threat into a minor inconvenience. Furthermore, her Split Shot makes quick work of any Plague Wards he places, denying him map control and vision while accelerating her own farm.

This leaves Venomancer without a clear path to victory. His main strategy of wearing down an entire team over a long fight doesn't work when the enemy's core carry is built to withstand exactly that. Medusa is free to farm through the mid-game, as Veno lacks the burst damage to ever truly threaten her. In teamfights, she can often ignore him entirely, confident that her Mana Shield will handle his damage while she uses Stone Gaze to lock down and eliminate more immediate threats.
