Monkey King vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Picking Monkey King into a Sniper is often a recipe for frustration. The core of Monkey King's plan, using Tree Dance to get a good Primal Spring, is consistently undermined. Sniper can use Shrapnel to check suspicious treelines, knocking MK down, slowing him, and preventing any surprise initiation. Even if Monkey King finds an angle to jump from, he lands far away from his real target. He's then forced to cross a wide-open area while Sniper, standing at a safe distance, easily peppers him with attacks. It’s a huge amount of ground to cover under heavy fire.

This problem only gets worse as the game progresses. In teamfights, Sniper will be positioned so far back that Monkey King can't reach him without overextending deep into the enemy team. Trying to solo gank him is equally difficult, as Sniper's long range gives him plenty of time to see the approach and react. The burden is entirely on the Monkey King and his team to orchestrate a perfect multi-hero gank with smokes and stuns. The Sniper simply has to maintain his distance and punish any failed attempt, making him a natural counter.
