Monkey King vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against Windranger is a real problem for Monkey King. She shoves lanes and farms from a safe distance with Powershot, forcing him to react to her pressure instead of setting his own pace. Monkey King’s whole game is about jumping from the trees for a surprise attack, but Windrun completely negates his physical damage from Jingu Mastery, letting her escape for free. Worse, his position in the trees gives her an easy angle for Shackleshot, locking him down and turning his own escape tool against him. He struggles to farm safely or find the ganks he needs to get ahead.

As the game progresses, Monkey King is forced to play on Windranger's terms. He can't really initiate on her and often has to wait for her to overextend or use Windrun before he can commit to a fight. A good Windranger will leverage this advantage to keep him poor and responding to her team's aggression. Monkey King’s only real answer is to farm up an item that either pierces evasion or provides magic immunity, but getting the gold for that is difficult when she controls the tempo of the game so effectively.
