Phantom Assassin vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other creates a very specific arms race. Phantom Assassin relies on bursting down a single hero, but Phantom Lancer's illusions from Juxtapose and Doppelganger make finding the real target a huge problem. This forces Phantom Assassin to buy a Battle Fury for the cleave damage, which helps clear the fakes. In response, Phantom Lancer builds a Diffusal Blade, and his illusions start draining PA's mana pool, leaving her unable to use Phantom Strike to engage or escape. It's a direct back-and-forth of itemization and strategy.

The matchup often hinges on which carry hits their key item timings first. An early lead for Phantom Assassin lets her control the map and hunt Phantom Lancer before he can build a critical mass of illusions. If the game stalls and PL gets his core items online, he can become impossible for PA to handle alone. Late-game fights depend entirely on execution. If PA's team can provide lockdown on the real PL, she can delete him before he reacts. If PL gets a good start to a fight and summons his army, he can overwhelm and kite the PA.
