Phantom Lancer vs Timbersaw

How this matchup plays

Seeing all of Timbersaw's area damage might make you think he’s a natural counter here. The reality is that his entire kit depends on a mana pool that Phantom Lancer is perfectly equipped to destroy. Once PL gets his Diffusal Blade, every illusion becomes a walking mana drain. Timbersaw needs to cast constantly to be effective, but he can't sustain that when an army is hitting him. While his Reactive Armor makes him tough against the physical attacks, it does nothing to stop his mana from vanishing in seconds, leaving him completely helpless.

An aggressive lane from Timbersaw can give him an early lead, but the matchup flips hard later on. Phantom Lancer will actively hunt him, knowing that a few seconds of focus from illusions will leave Timbersaw without an escape or any damage. In bigger fights, PL can send his illusions to neutralize Timbersaw from the start, taking the enemy's frontline presence out of the equation. Timbersaw is forced into a defensive position, hoping his team can find and burst the real Phantom Lancer before his mana bar is empty.
