Phantom Lancer vs Storm Spirit

How this matchup plays

Trying to use Ball Lightning for aggression or escape becomes a huge liability for Storm Spirit. Phantom Lancer's whole kit is designed to create illusions that overwhelm single-target heroes, and those illusions inheriting mana break from a Diffusal Blade is devastating. Storm's main source of damage and mobility relies entirely on his mana pool, which Phantom Lancer can evaporate in seconds. A single Doppelganger into a Spirit Lance is often enough to surround Storm, leaving him with no resources to fight back or flee as his mana gets burned away.

This dynamic forces the Storm Spirit player into a passive, reactive game. Instead of setting the tempo with pickoffs, he's constantly worried about where Phantom Lancer is, because any fight can be turned by him. Storm is often forced to buy survival items that delay his core progression, while PL is free to farm and control the map. Eventually, Phantom Lancer can split push without any real threat of being punished, choking Storm out of the resources he needs to be effective and securing a major economic and map control lead.
