Phantom Lancer vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a single hero is what Troll Warlord does best, but Phantom Lancer makes that nearly impossible by flooding the screen with illusions. Troll’s main answer is the area damage from his melee Whirling Axes and, usually, a Battlefury. This gives him the cleave needed to cut through the fakes and find the real hero. The entire fight often hinges on whether PL can get his Diffusal Blade first. By draining Troll Warlord's small mana pool, Phantom Lancer can stop the axes from being used at all, leaving Troll with no way to handle the illusion swarm.

This creates a constant arms race. If Troll gets ahead, his farm speed and cleave can keep PL’s army under control. If Phantom Lancer gets the jump, Troll will lack the mana to fight back effectively. The dynamic gets even trickier around Troll's ultimate, Battle Trance. A smart PL player can kite a Tranced Troll by sending illusions to absorb the forced attacks. The Troll player, in turn, needs to find and commit to the real PL before activating his ultimate, or have his team provide a lockdown. The fight can swing based on a single good Doppelganger or a well-timed ultimate.
