Phantom Lancer vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Trying to control a teamfight as Winter Wyvern feels awful against a Phantom Lancer. Your whole game plan revolves around landing a good Winter's Curse, but his illusions completely ruin it. Instead of forcing a core to kill their own support, you're often making them attack a weak illusion that dies instantly. The same goes for Splinter Blast; it gets soaked up by illusion clutter and rarely finds a valuable target. Even your ability to kite with Arctic Burn is limited, as Phantom Lancer can simply dispel the slow with Doppelganger and keep closing the gap.

This means that past the laning stage, Wyvern loses her primary function in the fight. While she can still try to save an ally from physical damage with Cold Embrace, PL can often outlast the duration or switch his focus. The pressure is entirely on the Winter Wyvern to find the real hero and hope her team is positioned perfectly to follow up on a curse. Meanwhile, Phantom Lancer can play his own game, confident that the enemy's biggest teamfight spell is a non-threat and he can eventually overwhelm their lineup.
