Shadow Shaman vs Io

How this matchup plays

Catching an Io or its tethered partner is the whole game for Shadow Shaman. His disables are long enough to secure a kill on almost anyone, and Serpent Wards will finish the job before a target can escape. The problem is that Io's saves from Overcharge and the constant healing from Tether can be enough for an ally to survive the initial lockdown. This creates a situation where a successful gank depends entirely on who gets the jump. If Io is the one caught, he dies instantly, but if he has a moment to react, he can often turn the tables or save his core.

The game then becomes a contest of vision and map control. Shadow Shaman's team wants to force fights around objectives where his disables are most effective. In response, the Io player will try to avoid these brawls, instead using Relocate to create uneven fights across the map or to apply pressure elsewhere. Ultimately, it comes down to execution. If Io can't save his core from a full duration Shackle, his team loses the fight. But if Shadow Shaman gets caught out alone by a Relocate gank, he has no escape.
