Sniper vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Trying to siege a tower as Sniper and getting hit by a Paralyzing Cask that bounced from the fog is a huge problem. If Witch Doctor follows up with Maledict, any stray damage will quickly finish you off. This is Witch Doctor's ideal scenario: catching a key target out of position. The main issue for him is that getting close enough to do this is very risky. Sniper's attack range is so long that he can often start shooting the Witch Doctor long before he is in range to cast his spells, forcing him to either retreat or die before he can contribute.

The matchup becomes a game of who gets the jump on whom. A Witch Doctor with a Blink Dagger can be a nightmare for Sniper, instantly appearing on top of him and using Death Ward to secure a kill. On the other hand, a well-positioned Sniper can make it impossible for Witch Doctor to get close. By using Shrapnel for vision and slows, Sniper can control the battlefield from afar. If Witch Doctor does commit to channeling Death Ward, Sniper can often just kill him from outside its range before the damage becomes a real threat.
