Abaddon vs Anti-Mage

How this matchup plays

Setting up a Mana Void on Abaddon can feel like the perfect play for Anti-Mage, as Mana Break quickly drains Abaddon's small mana pool for huge damage. The problem is Borrowed Time, which almost always triggers and allows Abaddon to survive the burst, healing through much of the damage. While he lives, he is often left with no mana to use Aphotic Shield or Mist Coil on his allies. This core interaction results in a wash: Anti-Mage can't secure a quick kill on Abaddon, but he can neutralize his ability to support his team with spells.

Success in this matchup usually comes down to targets and timing. Anti-Mage will often ignore Abaddon and instead Blink onto his more fragile teammates. Abaddon's role becomes staying near his allies to provide Aphotic Shield and act as a deterrent. The game then becomes a question of execution. Does the Anti-Mage find an isolated target and burst them before help arrives, or does the Abaddon's team stay grouped, survive the initial jump, and then turn on a vulnerable Anti-Mage? Neither hero has a built-in way to consistently shut down the other's plan.
