Abaddon vs Monkey King

How this matchup plays

Standing inside Wukong's Command feels very different when Abaddon is on the other team. Monkey King relies on locking a target down and hitting them repeatedly, but Borrowed Time completely flips this script. Any damage taken by Abaddon while his ultimate is active heals him, turning what should be a kill into a full-health counter-initiation for his team. Aphotic Shield also provides a strong dispel, letting an ally escape the stun from Boundless Strike or simply shrugging off the initial hits Monkey King needs to build his Jingu Mastery.

This core interaction makes Monkey King's entire game plan feel unreliable. He wants to jump on a backline hero and secure a quick kill before a fight breaks out, but Abaddon can often react with a shield or his ultimate to deny that burst from anywhere on the map. This forces Monkey King to either try to bait out Borrowed Time and then disengage, which is difficult, or focus a different hero entirely. Abaddon, meanwhile, can play more aggressively, knowing his kit directly punishes Monkey King’s main way of dealing damage.
