Bane vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Controlling a big teamfight often comes down to which of these two gets their ultimate off without being interrupted. Bane’s Fiend's Grip is a perfect answer to a channeled Death Ward, completely shutting down Witch Doctor's damage. However, Witch Doctor's Paralyzing Cask is equally good at stopping Fiend's Grip, and its random bounces can break the channel from an unexpected angle. Both heroes want to accomplish the same thing — lock down the fight with a huge spell — but they are also each other's natural counter for doing so. This creates a standoff where neither has a clear upper hand.

The result is a game of cat-and-mouse. Each player is constantly aware of the other's position, waiting for them to commit their key spell first. A Witch Doctor will try to hide in the trees or wait for Bane to grip someone else before showing himself. A smart Bane will hold his ultimate specifically for the Death Ward, even if it means letting another enemy live for a few extra seconds. Success often depends on which team provides better vision or protection for their support, allowing them to finally break the stalemate and channel their spell successfully.
