Medusa vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Dealing with Phantom Lancer's illusions can be tricky for Medusa. Her Split Shot seems like a natural answer, but it often lacks the punch to clear the swarm before it overwhelms her. Each one of those illusions armed with a Diffusal Blade is a direct threat to Medusa's Mana Shield, burning through her effective health pool much faster than she can deal with them. Stone Gaze can be a useful tool, but a smart Phantom Lancer can use Doppelganger to reposition and avoid its full effect, leaving her vulnerable.

The result is a delicate farm race. Medusa needs to accelerate her item progression towards things that help her clear the illusions or survive their mana drain, like a Skadi or Mjollnir. Phantom Lancer tries to hit his own timings to pressure her before she gets too farmed to kill. Whichever hero gets a better start and has their team create more space will have the advantage, but without a clear lead, they often end up scaling into the late game on relatively even terms, waiting for the other to make a mistake.
