← Deadlock metaDeadlock Matchmaking Update — Ranked Mode, new ranks, and the numbers
Valve shipped the Matchmaking Update on July 30, 2026 — the biggest systems change in Deadlock's history. The game now splits into Standard and Ranked queues, the ranking system was rebuilt with a renamed rank ladder, and seasons arrive with a soft reset. This page tracks what it did to the meta, in measured numbers: per-hero win-rate movement across more than a million post-update matches, next to the pre-update baselines — no speculation.
Biggest measured moves since the update
1,321,432 matches since the Matchmaking Update vs 934,928 before · only heroes with ≥3,000 matches on both sides shown.

What the update changed
Ranked Mode — how to unlock it
- ›How to unlock Ranked: 60 wins in Standard mode.
- ›A hero is only pickable in Ranked after 15 Standard wins on that hero, and you need at least 3 eligible heroes to queue.
- ›Solo or duo queue only. Duos must be within 1 rank of each other; Eternus players can only duo with other Eternus within 3 subranks.
- ›Leaving early is now punished harder: sub-5-minute abandons void the match for everyone else and count as a loss for the leaver (and their duo), with penalties escalating to low priority.
Seasons, calibration & rank reset
- ›Season 1 runs July 30 – October 7, 2026.
- ›Each season starts with 8 calibration matches and a soft rank reset; calibration can place you no higher than Oracle VI.
- ›Your season-high rank is archived permanently.
Rank Points
- ›Wins and losses average ±250 points, scaled by match expectation and streaks.
- ›Each subrank is 1,000 points; crossing into a new major rank costs 2,000.
- ›Above Eternus I, subranks are re-drawn daily by percentile — top-end rank is now relative, not an absolute score.
- ›Demotion protection: 5 games at a major-rank boundary, 2 at a subrank boundary.
Drafting & match flow
- ›Ranked hero bans went from 2 to 3 per match.
- ›A new pre-game staging area lets you swap your hero once (to an unpicked, eligible hero) and choose your starting lane.
- ›Everyone's rank badge is shown at match start.
Leaderboards
- ›Global leaderboard now requires 75 matches in the last 30 days (was 50).
- ›Hero leaderboards require 30 matches on that hero in 30 days (was 20) plus 100 career wins on the hero.
The new rank ladder — all 11 ranks in order
In order from lowest to highest: Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant, Eternus — six subranks (I–VI) each. Tier numbers and the badge encoding are unchanged — five of the eleven names moved or changed. Obscurus is new: it marks uncalibrated players and sits outside the ladder.
| Tier | Old name | New name |
|---|
| 1 | Initiate | Initiate |
| 2 | Seeker | Seeker |
| 3 | Alchemist | Acolyte |
| 4 | Arcanist | Sentinel |
| 5 | Ritualist | Mystic |
| 6 | Emissary | Ritualist |
| 7 | Archon | Emissary |
| 8 | Oracle | Oracle |
| 9 | Phantom | Phantom |
| 10 | Ascendant | Ascendant |
| 11 | Eternus | Eternus |
Skill-bracket tier lists by the new ladder: Initiate–Acolyte · Sentinel–Ritualist · Emissary–Phantom · Ascendant–Eternus
Going into the update — the meta as it stood
Top heroes by win rate over the final 30 days before the update — 768,534 6v6 matches through July 28, 2026 in the Batru warehouse. This is the baseline the Ranked-era meta gets measured against.
| # | Hero | Win rate | Matches |
|---|
| 1 | Seven | 54.5% | 302,907 |
| 2 | Graves | 54.5% | 273,173 |
| 3 | Victor | 54.1% | 244,224 |
| 4 | Ivy | 54.1% | 244,531 |
| 5 | Kelvin | 53.5% | 135,407 |
| 6 | McGinnis | 53.3% | 145,285 |
| 7 | Paige | 53.1% | 253,624 |
| 8 | Haze | 53.1% | 409,344 |
| 9 | Drifter | 52.5% | 391,095 |
| 10 | Lash | 52.2% | 339,043 |
How this site handles the boundary
- ›Rank badges now update only from Ranked matches, and the season reset compresses the ladder — skill-bracket populations will drift for a few weeks, so treat bracket-level comparisons across July 30 as descriptive.
- ›Every stats window on this site cuts at the update boundary: pre- and post-update matches are never mixed once the post-update sample clears the gate.
- ›Measured win-rate movers land on this page automatically once both windows clear 3,000 matches per hero. Movement below that gate is deliberately not shown — thin windows produce noise, not news.
- ›Rank distribution across the new ladder will be published once calibration settles — percentile shares during the reset window are noise, not signal.

The Batru Deadlock predictor turns any 6v6 draft into a calibrated win probability — when it says 60%, it wins about 60% of the time. Three bans and a staging-area hero swap make draft calls matter more than ever.
